Are We Nearly There Yet?

08/04/2020

Maybe Purcell, Tallis and Mozart. Really?

What they laughing about? We took this shot late in the session and missed a few of us - 14 in all plus E & A (sounds better that way round). And this time we posed.

Elinor took us into quite foreign territory. Started with the Canon from Tallis (C17th) All Praise to Thee, then the rather less sacred Cakes and Ale from another venerable , Purcell. Bit more time needed on the latter but what at first seemed hard notes were much easier under E's guidance. And the Tallis was immediately do-able and satisfying, much like Dona Nobis Pacem.

We split into sections with Anne on alto and bass, Elinor sop and tenor, to learn (not for all of us, Barbara) Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus. Then as before came back together to "perform" as one - of course we did. Fab music.

And last, we redeemed Here, There and Everywhere and Pokarekare Ano for a couple of quick airings. Lots of singing and lots of input from our MDs

Shame that half a dozen of us were kept away by work or its after effects. Hopefully they can look at tonight's songs for future sessions. Anne has Lean on Me by the late Bill Withers warming up for next week, among other gems.
